All original eight (8) foot tall case clock. In completely original condition, made and signed, "John Hamilton, Glasgow", Scotland. Etched and written in script on brace face of clock, in circle.
In Brittons book, "Old Clocks and Their Makers,", it authenticates on page 395 that John Hamilton made clocks, circa 1780. In addition, PROVENANCE IS INCLUDED FROM THE ESTATE!
The complete case of the clock in hand hewn of burled walnut. The hood portion of the clock has corner columns/pillars, and a break-arch top with curly horns and one center carved ball finish. The hand crafted brass face with the break arch hood is completely hand etched. T=At the top in the circle is written, "John Hamilton, Glasgow ",dated in side on the clock movement, "1784". At the bottom portion of the brass face is a calader that actually changes each day with the movement of the clock. The numerals on the face are Roman, the way hands of the clock have arrow ends and are very fine in detail. The clock functions on two original tooled lead weights and must be wound every eight days. The pewter pendulum is also original. On the hour, the clock strikes a bell and accurately gives the correct time in chiming the number of hours it is in the day. An exceptionally choice and rare clock both signed and dated by its make in 1784. Excellent condition. (Door does not always stay completely closed, key is miissing)
